International Festival Of Winter Cinema is held every year on Indigenous land in Treaty 6 territory. This place – Amiskwacîwâskahikan – is a traditional meeting ground, gathering place, and travelling route of the Nêhiyawak, Anishinaabe, Niitsitapi, Métis, Dene, and Nakota Sioux. These peoples whose histories, languages, and cultures are the basis of our connection to this land. This is land settled, travelled, and cared for by Indigenous Peoples since time immemorial to the present day. Treaties have been affirmed. Treaties have been broken. We acknowledge these truths as a reminder that we are all Treaty People bound to one another by the spirit and intent of Treaty.
