Carman McKay is a Contemporary Salish Artist, Cultural Educator, and a Certified Life Skills Facilitator. His fathers ancestors the Stó:lō "River" People, have benefited from the livable region for at least 9000 years. McKay's history speaks of geological events which shaped how we lived and adapted to this vast coast with direct links to the Cascade Mountain Range.


APPRENTICESHIP for 10 years with Paiute Elder Hidden Wolf began in 1994 with intentions of immersing myself into cultural, physical, social, and spiritual interconnectedness. Together we travelled assisting communities by developing contemporary and traditional initiatives in various parts of America and Canada. Ceremonies like the vision quest, sweat lodge, and fire keeping helped shaped the spiritual man that I am. He carries his elders spirit with him consistently as a drum maker, drum carrier, and singer of public songs.


CONSULTATION for 29 years ongoing for artistic, professional, social, educational, cultural, and business projects and initiatives. As a contemporary artist he is capable of interconnecting art practices as an artist-in-residence, producing logo designs, painting large mural installations, artist exhibitions, wood carving, and immersion camps for hands on learning experiences. Planning together through boards and committees, grant writing (Certified), requests for proposals, budget planning and requirements, deadlines, reports, courses, and documentation all continue to shape the possibilities of initiatives. He is a skilled cultural educator teaching outdoor education on the land, board rooms, and in the classrooms, promoting life skills, and for the public of all ages with an authentic presence creating a meaningful human experiences.
